Canadian School Bahrain Inaugurates “Knowledge Garden” to Promote Environmental Awareness and Agricultural Education
Canadian School Bahrain (CSB) celebrated the opening of its new eco-friendly outdoor learning space, the “Knowledge Garden.” This innovative initiative is designed to enhance experiential learning while fostering environmental awareness and agricultural culture among students. The garden aims to educate students about the importance of greenery, planting, and sustainable practices in preserving the environment and supporting community well-being.
During the inauguration, Mrs. Mariam Al Kooheji, Head of the Executive Committee at CSB, emphasized that this initiative reflects the school’s ongoing efforts to instill environmental responsibility and a love for agriculture among future generations. Through active participation in garden-based activities, students are encouraged to explore, inquire, and engage with topics related to nature, planting, and sustainability.
Mrs. Al Kooheji expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in bringing this impactful educational project to life. She highlighted the value of creating dynamic learning environments that support student development, both academically and personally, while embedding national and environmental values in their character.
She further noted that the “Knowledge Garden” serves as a powerful tool to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, strengthening students’ understanding of core academic principles and promoting a culture of academic excellence. At the same time, it fosters a deep appreciation for sustainability and nature.
Through the Knowledge Garden, students gain hands-on experience in gardening by planting and nurturing various fruits and vegetables. Beyond the introduction to agriculture and plant science, the garden provides a platform for interdisciplinary learning by connecting science, mathematics, and environmental studies in real-world settings. It serves as a versatile educational resource that brings textbook lessons to life.
Dr. Bilal Dandashi, Principal of Canadian School Bahrain, stressed the importance of such initiatives in today’s world, especially as global environmental challenges like climate change and ozone depletion continue to intensify.
“At CSB, we are committed to raising environmentally conscious students who understand the importance of protecting our planet,” Dr. Dandashi stated. “Projects like the Knowledge Garden are more than just educational tools—they reflect our broader mission to nurture a generation that values sustainability and takes active steps toward a greener future.”
“We encourage our students to be environmental ambassadors in their daily lives by embracing eco-friendly practices such as reducing plastic use, recycling, and conserving water and energy. Together, we can preserve Bahrain’s natural beauty for generations to come by planting more trees, supporting green initiatives, and participating in sustainability-driven projects. The future of our planet is in our hands, and with collective action, we can make a lasting difference.”
Notably, Canadian School Bahrain participated in the Bahrain Garden Club’s Annual School Gardens Competition for the 2024–2025 academic year, where it proudly earned third place in the private school garden category—an achievement that reflects the school’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in education.
